October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In honor, Palermo’s Bakery is excited and proud to announce that we will be teaming up with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment. Palermo’s will be supporting the foundation and walk throughout the entire month of October by selling custom made pink cupcakes. For every cupcake sold, Palermo’s will donate $1 to the foundation.
The walks that Making Strides Against Breast Cancer host are the largest events in the nation, with over 300 communities across the country participating. Making Strides will be hosting a walk-a-thon that will take place Sunday, October 18 at 10am at The New Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Participants in the walk raise funds that support the American Cancer Society’s revolutionary breast cancer research, and help people take preventative measures for early detection and treatment.
The first walk was in Boston in 1984, and was organized by cancer survivor Margery “Margie” Gould Rath. Margie wanted to celebrate life with other cancer survivors by raising funds for the American Cancer Society. In 1993, the event officially became known as the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, and since then has had more than 11 million walkers raise over $685 million.
Making Strides has grown tremendously and has done so much for cancer research; however, it is no time to stop. They need our help to continue their cutting-edge cancer research.
As Making Strides says, “More walkers mean free lodging and rides to treatment for breast cancer patients who need it. More walkers fundraising mean more survivors who will celebrate more birthdays”. We encourage that you sign up for this amazing cause here.
The pink cupcakes being sold are a regular size vanilla cake with pink icing, adorned with white pearl dragees and topped with a pink fondant breast cancer ribbon. The cupcakes will be sold at our locations in Ridgefield Park, Little Ferry and Union City for $3.50. For every cupcake sold in October, we will donate $1 to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer foundation. Please help support this incredible cause.
